I'm really worried about my cat, Luna. She's always been super energetic and playful, but for the past week or so, she’s been acting completely out of character. She's been hiding under the bed all day, barely eating, and when I try to pick her up, she hisses, which she’s never done before. I took her to two different vets, and both said they couldn’t find anything wrong with her, but I know something's up. It breaks my heart seeing her like this and feeling so helpless. Has anyone else experienced something like this? I’m desperate for any advice—I just want to help my little girl feel better and like herself again. Anything you guys can suggest would mean a lot. Thanks so much in advance!
I’m really sorry to hear that your cat is in distress. It must be so hard to see them in pain without clear answers. Cats are experts at hiding discomfort, so I’m glad you’re attentive to your pet’s behavior.
There are a few things we could consider when a cat seems unwell but the cause isn’t immediately obvious. Stress can manifest physically, so changes in your home or environment might affect your cat. Another factor could be pain from dental issues, which can be tricky to spot without a thorough oral exam. Arthritis is also common in older cats and can cause discomfort even if it’s not always visible on a typical exam.
Until you get to the bottom of it, keep your cat's environment calm and quiet. Warm bedding and gentle petting might comfort them, but watch if touching certain areas worsens their reaction. Make note of any changes in appetite, toilet habits, or movement, even if they seem minor.
Keep an eye out for signs like rapid breathing, hiding, vocalizing more than usual, or limping, which can indicate something more serious. If these symptoms arise or persist, it’s critical to seek veterinary attention.
