Hello, I'm sorry to hear your cat is having a tough time. When cats have a reaction to Neomycin, it can sometimes show up as skin irritation, redness, or even gastrointestinal issues like vomiting or diarrhea. Neomycin is an antibiotic often used topically or orally to fight infections, and while reactions aren't common, they can occur.
If you notice your cat scratching more than usual or if their skin looks red or inflamed where the medication was applied, it could indicate a skin allergy. For gastrointestinal issues, keep an eye out for vomiting or changes in appetite and energy levels.
At home, you can gently clean any affected skin areas with cool water and keep your cat comfortable by ensuring they're in a stress-free environment. Make sure they have access to fresh water and encourage them to drink to stay hydrated, especially if they've had vomiting or diarrhea.
Watch closely for signs of a more severe reaction, such as difficulty breathing, swelling of the face or paws, or extreme lethargy. If you notice any of these, it's important to seek veterinary care immediately.
To get more tailored guidance, I recommend booking a video consult with one of our Dial A Vet experts. They can help assess your cat's condition and recommend the best course of action.
Cat having reaction to Neomycin?
I'm really worried about my cat, Luna, and could use some advice. We just started her on Neomycin for an infection, and it seems like she might be having a bad reaction to it. She’s been vomiting quite a bit and seems really lethargic, just lying around when she's usually super playful. Her appetite’s dropped noticeably and she’s even stopped purring, which is really unlike her. I’m feeling pretty helpless right now and not sure if these are normal side effects or if I should be rushing her to the vet immediately. Have any of you experienced this with your cats? I’m hoping someone might have some advice or similar experiences to share. Thanks in advance for any help, I really appreciate it.
