I’m feeling really overwhelmed and could use some advice. My cat, Luna, has been dealing with recurring struvite crystals, and despite being on a prescription diet that’s supposed to help with this issue, it doesn’t seem to be making a difference. She’s been on the Hill’s c/d diet for a few months now, but the poor thing just had another flare-up, and I’m at my wit’s end. She’s in so much discomfort and seeing her in pain is heartbreaking. The vet suggested I try this special litter that changes color to detect urinary issues, but I'm skeptical about how effective it is. Has anyone else experienced something similar? I’m also worried about the stress all these vet visits might be causing her. Any tips on managing this, or alternative treatments that have worked for you? Thank you all so much in advance.
Hello there,
I understand how concerning it is to see your cat dealing with recurring struvite crystals despite being on a prescription diet. This condition can be quite frustrating, but you're not alone, and I'm here to help.
Struvite crystals are often linked to certain dietary and hydration factors. While the prescription diet supports urinary health, other factors might still contribute. Stress, inadequate water intake, or infections could also play a role. Make sure your kitty is drinking plenty of water—consider adding a pet water fountain or mixing some water into their food to help with this.
Additionally, maintaining a calm environment can reduce stress, which sometimes exacerbates urinary issues. Play sessions, cozy resting spots, and even pheromone diffusers may provide some relief.
Keep an eye out for signs like frequent urination, straining in the litter box, blood in the urine, or unusual irritability, as these can suggest a more serious problem needing immediate attention.
Since your cat is already on a special diet and still having issues, it might be worth discussing with a vet to explore any underlying causes or adjustments needed. I recommend booking a video consult on Dial A Vet, so we can talk through your concerns and tailor a plan just for your furball.
Looking forward to helping out!
