Question:

Cat has issues which no vet has been able to diagnose

I'm feeling really overwhelmed and could use some advice. My sweet kitty, Luna, has been dealing with some mysterious health issues for a while now, and it's breaking my heart. We've been to three different vets, had countless tests done, and yet, no one has been able to pinpoint what's going on. She's been lethargic, not eating much, and sometimes just seems so uncomfortable. You can tell there's something just not right, but every test comes back normal and each vet just ends up shrugging their shoulders. I've done everything I can think of, from changing her diet to trying different kinds of litter, hoping maybe she's just having a reaction to something simple. Has anyone gone through something like this before? I'm desperate for ideas or suggestions, anything that might bring some relief to my poor girl. Thanks in advance, I really appreciate any help you can offer.

Answer:

Hello there,

I'm sorry to hear that your cat is having undiagnosed issues. Let's explore some common reasons a cat might experience symptoms that are difficult to diagnose.

Cats can be quite adept at hiding illness, making it tricky for even the best vets to pinpoint a problem right away. Some potential causes could include subtle issues like food allergies, early-stage kidney disease, or stress-related conditions. Cats can also suffer from conditions such as feline asthma or hyperthyroidism, which might not always be apparent in early stages.

For at-home care, try to monitor any patterns associated with the symptoms you're observing, such as changes in diet, litter box habits, or behavior. Ensure your cat has a calm environment with plenty of water and suitable food, as diet adjustments might help alleviate certain symptoms.

Watch for any serious signs like dramatic weight loss, persistent vomiting or diarrhea, difficulty breathing, or drastic changes in behavior. These could indicate that more urgent veterinary attention is needed.

It might be time for a fresh set of eyes on your cat's case. A video consult with one of our Dial A Vet professionals could offer new insights. They can help guide you through more personalized steps and see if there are any subtle cues that might have been overlooked.

I hope to chat with you soon to find the best way forward for your furry friend!

The "Ask a Vet" forum on Dial A Vet offers general information and helpful tips on pet health, but it's not a substitute for professional veterinary care. The advice here doesn't create a veterinarian-client-patient relationship, and our vets can't diagnose or treat your pet remotely. For emergencies or specific medical concerns, always contact your local veterinarian immediately. Your pet's health is unique, and decisions should only be made after consulting with a qualified professional. By using this forum, you acknowledge these limitations and agree to seek in-person veterinary advice for all your pet's health needs. View our content guidelines.

It was so easy, I needed some eye drops for my dog and thinking about going to the vet on a weekend made me nervous about the cost involved. Dial A Vet was a much simpler, cheaper option with faster results. Within 10 minutes of the call, I had the medicine I needed for my dog without an expensive consultation.

A great fast efficient service with a qualified vet who was lovely and helpful. Thank you Samantha. I was able to sort my dog at 6pm on a Sunday night for $49 - amazing. Highly recommend.

What an amazing service, at my wits end as I knew my beautiful dog had an ear infection, could not get into the vet for 4 days. Never knew there was vets online until I googled. Within 15 minutes on a Sunday I was taking to beautiful Samantha who diagnosed and treated our Jasper. Only $49. She trusted that we knew our boy and gave us lots of advice. I will definitely be using dial a vet every time and sharing with all my friends and family. Absolutely fantastic kind caring service. 11/10
