I really need some advice because I’m starting to feel uneasy about my vet’s reactions. My dog Luna, who’s a 5-year-old Golden Retriever, hasn’t been herself lately. She’s always had a ton of energy, but now she seems really lethargic, doesn’t want to play, and is eating a lot less than usual. I took her to the vet last week, explained everything, and the vet did a general check-up. She said everything was normal and that I shouldn’t worry, but my gut is telling me something’s off. Luna has also been drinking more water than usual, and she’s had a couple of accidents in the house, which she’s never done before. Has anyone else experienced this? Am I overreacting, or should I get a second opinion? I’m worried I’m not doing enough, but I also don’t want to seem like I’m overbearing with my concerns. Any advice you all might have would mean a lot. Thanks in advance!
Hello, and thanks for reaching out. It can be frustrating when you’re worried about your pet and feel like you're not getting all the answers you need. Let's try to unravel this together.
Your vet likely believes your pet’s condition is normal based on their physical exam and diagnostic tests. However, if you still feel uneasy, it’s important to trust your instincts as a pet parent.
If you could share more details about what's concerning you, we might get a clearer picture. Common signs that something might be off include changes in appetite, lethargy, unusual behaviors, persistent vomiting or diarrhea, and any changes in weight.
For now, continue to monitor your pet closely. Make sure they have access to fresh water and nutritious food, and try to keep their routine as stress-free as possible. Note any specific changes or patterns you observe.
If your concerns continue or your pet shows signs of a serious issue—such as difficulty breathing, inability to stand, or non-stop vomiting—please seek urgent veterinary care.
I recommend booking a video consult with one of our vets here at Dial A Vet. Sometimes a second opinion or a fresh set of eyes can provide additional reassurance and guidance for you and your furry friend.
The "Ask a Vet" forum on Dial A Vet offers general information and helpful tips on pet health, but it's
not a substitute for professional veterinary care. The advice here doesn't create a veterinarian-client-patient relationship, and our vets can't diagnose or treat your pet remotely.
For emergencies or specific medical concerns, always contact your local veterinarian immediately. Your pet's health is unique, and decisions should only be made after consulting with a qualified professional. By using this forum, you acknowledge these limitations and agree to seek in-person veterinary advice for all your pet's health needs. View our
