Thanks for reaching out. I completely understand why you're worried about your puppy's situation. Myoclonus, which is rhythmic, involuntary twitching, can often be concerning for pet owners to witness. While myoclonus itself isn't necessarily painful, it can sometimes be uncomfortable or mildly disturbing for your pup, leading to behaviors like whining or crying.
There are various potential causes for myoclonus, such as neurological issues, infections, toxins, or even trauma. It's important to consider if there have been any recent changes in your puppy's environment, diet, or health that could have contributed to this condition.
For now, ensure your puppy is in a calm, stress-free environment. Try gently massaging the affected area; sometimes, a little comfort can help reduce anxiety. However, watch for signs such as persistent whining, changes in appetite, difficulty walking, or if your puppy seems to be in pain. These could indicate a more serious underlying issue.
It's always best to err on the side of caution. I recommend booking a video consult with a Dial A Vet specialist who can provide personalized advice based on a more detailed understanding of your puppy's symptoms.
Can myoclonus (rhythmic, involuntary twitching) be painful? i.e. Why is my puppy whining and crying so much?
I don’t know what’s going on with my puppy and I'm kind of freaking out. For the past couple of nights, he’s been having these weird, jolting twitches almost like he's startling himself awake, and I’m not sure if it’s painful for him. He's a sweet little fluff ball, only 5 months old, and normally he’s all about playtime and cuddles, but lately he’s been whining and crying way more than usual. It seems to happen mostly in the evenings, and I feel so helpless watching him because I'm scared it might be hurting him. I’ve tried comforting him with belly rubs and treats, but nothing’s really helping. Has anyone else gone through this with their pup? I'm desperate for some advice here.
