I’m really in need of some advice here. My sweet little Luna, who's only 3 years old, took a bad fall off the windowsill yesterday. She seemed fine at first, just a bit shaken, but by the evening, she was limping and clearly in pain. I rushed her to the vet this morning, and after some X-rays, they told me she has a broken hip. I'm absolutely heartbroken and terrified. The vet talked about how surgery might be necessary, but also mentioned there could be other options. I want to do what's best for her but am feeling so lost right now. Has anyone else been through something like this with their fur babies? What can I expect in terms of recovery time or care routines? Any advice or comforting words would really mean a lot to me right now. Thanks in advance!
Hello there,
I’m so sorry to hear about your cat's situation. A broken hip can be quite concerning, just like it is in humans. This injury often happens due to trauma, like falling from a height or being hit by a car, though sometimes underlying bone conditions might make bones more fragile.
Your kitty might be showing signs of limping, holding the leg at an unusual angle, or even refusing to move it altogether. If you notice visible discomfort, swelling, or bruising in the area, these are key indicators of a problem.
At home, try to keep your cat comfortable and restrict movement as much as possible. Set up a cozy, safe space where they can rest without needing to jump up and down. Ensure their litter box, food, and water are easily accessible.
Keep an eye out for symptoms like fever, loss of appetite, or pale gums, as these could indicate complications. If your cat shows signs of extreme pain, any changes in behavior, or difficulty breathing, it's crucial to seek veterinary care immediately.
It’s best to have a thorough evaluation by a veterinarian to determine the extent of the injury and discuss treatment options. I’d recommend booking a video consult with one of our Dial A Vet professionals so we can guide you through this situation and discuss the best path forward for your furry friend.
The "Ask a Vet" forum on Dial A Vet offers general information and helpful tips on pet health, but it's
