Hi there! It sounds like you're dealing with a worrisome situation, and I'm here to help. Seeing bloody mucus in your cat's stool and noticing a poor appetite can be concerning, and it's good that you've already taken steps with bloodwork and an X-ray.
Even though those results were normal, there are several common causes for these symptoms. Stress, dietary changes, or food intolerances can all upset a cat's digestive system. Parasites like worms could also be a culprit, even if not always visible in tests.
At home, try to keep your cat's environment calm and ensure fresh water is always available, encouraging them to stay hydrated. Offering small, easily digestible meals might help your cat’s tummy, such as boiled chicken and rice, but remember to transition back to regular food gradually.
However, there are some signs you should keep an eye out for that need immediate attention: if your cat continues to have blood in their stool, if they start vomiting, become lethargic, or if their appetite doesn’t improve, it’s time to dig deeper.
It’s best to have a more personal chat with a vet to fine-tune the next steps for your furry friend. Please feel free to book a video consult with one of our Dial A Vet professionals to get more tailored advice. We're here for you!
Bloody mucus in cat poop, cat appetite poor, bloodwork and X-ray normal
I'm really hoping to get some advice or insights from anyone who might have gone through something similar. My 5-year-old tabby, Max, has been having a really tough time lately, and I'm at my wits' end. He's been leaving these small bits of bloody mucus in his litter box, and his appetite has really dropped off. I took him to the vet, and thankfully, both the bloodwork and X-rays came back normal, which is a relief, but also frustrating because I still don’t have answers. Max is usually so energetic and chatty, but now he just seems so lethargic and disinterested, even with his favorite treats. I'm terrified something might be seriously wrong that we're missing, and the thought of him being in any sort of distress is breaking my heart. Has anyone else dealt with this kind of situation? Any advice or suggestions you have would be really appreciated. Thanks so much in advance!
