Help, what do I do? My dog has started acting really weird after his showers, and I'm kind of worried. Every time I give him a bath, which he doesn’t seem to mind too much, he goes completely nuts afterward. Like, he runs around the house with this crazy energy, darting from room to room and even sliding across the floor. It’s kind of funny but also concerning because he doesn’t usually act like this. He never bumps into anything or seems hurt, but I’m worried something might be wrong or if I’m missing something in his routine that could be causing this. Is this behavior normal for dogs after a shower or am I just being overprotective? I’d love to hear if anyone else has experienced this and what’s going on!
Thanks for the question! It's not uncommon for pets, especially dogs, to experience a burst of energy, often called "zoomies," after a shower. These sudden bursts are technically known as Frenetic Random Activity Periods (FRAPs), and they’re usually a normal and healthy behavior. Your pet might feel a bit more energetic after being bathed due to the sensation of the water and the feeling of being cool and refreshed afterward.
There are a few reasons why your pet might do this: they might be trying to shake off excess water, release pent-up energy from standing still during the bath, or it's simply their way of expressing joy at being clean.
To help manage these zoomies, ensure that the area where they’re running is safe and free of obstacles that could cause injury. Drying your pet thoroughly after a bath can also help minimize slips on hard floors.
However, if your pet seems excessively stressed during bath time, or if the zoomies result in any signs of distress, such as limping, limping, or not settling down afterwards, it could be a sign of a potential issue. Watch for these signs and take note if they seem out of the ordinary.
