Question:

Are these cat flu symptoms or could it be something else (already went to vet) ?

I'm feeling pretty worried and could really use some advice or reassurance here. My little furball, Whiskers, hasn't been himself lately. About a week ago, he started sneezing a lot and I noticed his eyes were watering more than usual. At first, I thought it might just be dust or maybe he was a bit under the weather, but then he started losing interest in his food and was napping even more than usual. I took him to the vet, and they said it might be cat flu, prescribed some meds, and we went on our way. But now I’m second-guessing myself because he’s not improving much, and it’s breaking my heart to see him like this. He’s not very old, and he’s usually bursting with energy. Has anyone else experienced something like this with their kitty? Could it be something else I should check for? Any suggestions on what else I can do to make him more comfortable? Thanks in advance for listening and for any advice you can offer!

Answer:

Hello there!

It sounds like you're going through a bit of a puzzle with your kitty's health right now, and I'm here to help! Cat flu can look a lot like a human cold and might include symptoms like sneezing, runny nose, watery eyes, fever, or even a drop in energy. However, there are other things it could be, such as allergies or a respiratory infection.

Since you've already seen a vet, it's a good start. At home, you can help your feline friend by ensuring they stay hydrated and offering nutritious food. Encouraging them to stay cozy and rest is also important. If their eyes are runny, you can gently wipe them with a soft, damp cloth to keep them clean.

Watch for signs that things are getting worse, like if your cat stops eating, has difficulty breathing, or you notice unusual discharge from their eyes or nose. These can indicate a more serious issue requiring immediate attention.

Keep an eye on your little one, and if you feel concerned or their condition doesn't improve, consider booking a video consult with a Dial A Vet professional. They're available to help guide you through this and ensure your cat is on the mend. Remember, you're not alone in this!

The "Ask a Vet" forum on Dial A Vet offers general information and helpful tips on pet health, but it's not a substitute for professional veterinary care. The advice here doesn't create a veterinarian-client-patient relationship, and our vets can't diagnose or treat your pet remotely. For emergencies or specific medical concerns, always contact your local veterinarian immediately. Your pet's health is unique, and decisions should only be made after consulting with a qualified professional. It was so easy, I needed some eye drops for my dog and thinking about going to the vet on a weekend made me nervous about the cost involved. Dial A Vet was a much simpler, cheaper option with faster results. Within 10 minutes of the call, I had the medicine I needed for my dog without an expensive consultation.

What an amazing service, at my wits end as I knew my beautiful dog had an ear infection, could not get into the vet for 4 days. Never knew there was vets online until I googled. Within 15 minutes on a Sunday I was taking to beautiful Samantha who diagnosed and treated our Jasper. Only $49. She trusted that we knew our boy and gave us lots of advice. I will definitely be using dial a vet every time and sharing with all my friends and family. Absolutely fantastic kind caring service. 11/10
