Thanks for reaching out with your concern. Pancreatitis, or inflammation of the pancreas, can indeed be distressing for you and your pet. There are various reasons why your furry friend might experience another flare-up. Common causes include dietary indiscretion (such as eating fatty foods), underlying metabolic disorders, and certain medications.
During a pancreatitis flare-up, you might notice symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, loss of appetite, and lethargy. If any of these signs appear, it’s wise to be cautious.
At home, you can try keeping your pet calm and well-hydrated. Offering small, easily digestible meals can help. Avoid giving treats or table scraps, as fatty foods can worsen the condition.
However, be vigilant. If your pet’s symptoms are severe, if they persist, or if you notice signs like bloated abdomen or persistent vomiting, it’s crucial to seek veterinary attention immediately. These could indicate more serious complications.
Taking the guesswork out of your pet’s health is crucial. I recommend booking a video consult with one of our veterinarians on Dial A Vet. They'll provide personalized advice and help ensure your pet receives the best care possible.
Another flair up of Pancreatitis ?
I'm really worried about my cat, Whiskers. She's been having these bouts where she just seems completely off. Lately, she’s been refusing her food and just curls up in a ball all day. She’s usually so playful and I can’t stand seeing her in pain. We took her to the vet a few months back when she first showed these symptoms, and they said it could be pancreatitis, but I thought we had it managed with her diet and meds. Now, it's like we're back to square one. Has anyone else dealt with recurrent pancreatitis in their cats? What did you do to help? I'm desperate to see her back to her normal, happy self. Any advice or insight would be really appreciated. It breaks my heart to see her like this.
