Hey there! First things first, there's absolutely no need to worry about being berated. It's great that you're reaching out now, and that's what matters. Every pet's needs are different, and understanding when and why vet visits are important is a big step.
Cats can be pretty good at hiding health issues, which is why regular check-ups are helpful to catch anything early. Common concerns like dental issues, weight changes, or unusual behavior can sometimes go unnoticed. It's like us going for a yearly health check-up, even if we feel okay!
At home, you can keep an eye on your cat's eating, drinking, and litter box habits. Changes can sometimes indicate things like dental disease or urinary tract issues. Also, observing playfulness and grooming is vital.
However, signs like persistent vomiting, noticeable weight loss, changes in breathing, or any sort of lumps and bumps should prompt a vet visit. Catching these early can often lead to simple solutions.
If you're unsure about your cat's health or just want some peace of mind, I'm here to help. A video consult on Dial A Vet could be a great first step to discuss any concerns and plan for your kitty's future visits. Take care!
Am I going to be berated for my cat never going to the vet?
I’m really nervous about sharing this, but I feel like I need some advice from fellow cat owners. My eight-year-old cat, Mittens, has never been to the vet. Before anyone jumps on me, please hear me out. When I first got her, she was a stray kitten and seemed perfectly healthy. Over the years, she's never shown any signs of illness—she's eating well, playing, and is very affectionate. I guess I just got complacent. My finances have been pretty tight, and the thought of a vet bill was always daunting. But now, I'm starting to feel guilty and worrying if something could be wrong that I’m not seeing. I’m really concerned someone is going to judge me harshly for not taking her sooner. Is it too late to start now? What should I be prepared for, financially and emotionally? Thanks in advance for any guidance or shared experiences.
