Question:

alternatives to z/d feline wet food?

I'm reaching out because I'm in a bit of a bind with my little furball, Chloe. She's been on Hill's z/d feline wet food for a while due to her food allergies, but it's getting really hard to find or just insanely expensive at the moment. I love her to bits, and I want to make sure she's getting the right nutrients without any allergic reactions, but I can't keep stretching my budget this much. Has anyone here successfully switched their cat to a different hypoallergenic wet food brand? I’m open to trying new foods, but I’m super anxious about her having another allergic reaction. Any advice or suggestions would be so appreciated! Thanks in advance from both Chloe and me. 🐾

Answer:

Hello there! It sounds like you’re exploring some options beyond the z/d feline wet food for your kitty. This diet is often prescribed for cats with food allergies or intolerances as it contains hydrolyzed protein, which is less likely to trigger allergic reactions. There could be several reasons you’re considering a switch, such as availability issues, cost, or your cat simply refusing to eat it.

Potential alternatives may include limited ingredient diets or other hydrolyzed protein foods available on the market. These are designed to limit potential allergens and support your cat’s sensitive system. Another option might be a novel protein diet where the protein source is something your cat has never eaten before, like rabbit or venison.

If you decide to try making these dietary changes at home, transition slowly to prevent stomach upset. Mix small amounts of the new food with the z/d and gradually increase it over a week.

Keep an eye out for any signs of continued or new allergic reactions, such as itching, ear infections, vomiting, or diarrhea. Should you notice these, it’s best to consult with a vet promptly.

I’d recommend booking a video consult with one of our Dial A Vet professionals, who can provide personalized guidance for your cat’s specific needs!

It was so easy, I needed some eye drops for my dog and thinking about going to the vet on a weekend made me nervous about the cost involved. Dial A Vet was a much simpler, cheaper option with faster results. Within 10 minutes of the call, I had the medicine I needed for my dog without an expensive consultation.

What an amazing service, at my wits end as I knew my beautiful dog had an ear infection, could not get into the vet for 4 days. Never knew there was vets online until I googled. Within 15 minutes on a Sunday I was taking to beautiful Samantha who diagnosed and treated our Jasper. Only $49. She trusted that we knew our boy and gave us lots of advice. I will definitely be using dial a vet every time and sharing with all my friends and family. Absolutely fantastic kind caring service. 11/10
