A few questions about cat

I don't know what's going on with my cat, and I could really use some advice. It's been a rough couple of days—last night, Maxie wouldn't eat her dinner, and this morning, she hadn't touched her food again. She's almost six now and has never been a picky eater. Normally, she's right there waiting when I fill her bowl, but now she just sniffs it and walks away. I noticed she’s been sleeping a lot more than usual, too. She’s always been playful, but now she just curls up in her favorite spot on the couch all day. I’m getting worried—does anyone know what could be causing this? Is it serious, or am I overthinking things?

Answer

Thanks for reaching out! Cats are amazing, but when they're dealing with something unusual, it can be concerning. If your cat is behaving oddly, perhaps hiding more, eating less, or grooming excessively, it could be due to several common issues like stress, dietary changes, or even a new environment. Cats are sensitive creatures, and sometimes small changes can stress them out more than we realize.

If you notice any of these behaviors, ensure your home environment is calm and stress-free. Provide a safe, quiet space where your cat can retreat if needed. Interactive toys can also help redirect energy if boredom is the culprit. Make sure there haven't been any sudden changes in their diet as well; consistency is key for their digestive health.

However, monitor for signs that might indicate a more serious issue, such as vomiting, diarrhea, significant weight loss, or persistent lethargy. These symptoms can sometimes suggest underlying health problems that warrant a closer look by a veterinarian.

If you continue to notice changes or if these more concerning signs arise, it’s a great idea to book a video consult with Dial A Vet. We can explore your cat’s behavior in more detail and provide tailored advice.
