8 month old cat ate a bulgogi dumpling

I can't believe this just happened, and I'm freaking out a bit. My sweet 8-month-old kitten somehow got onto the kitchen counter and devoured an entire bulgogi dumpling while I wasn’t looking. I’m really worried because I know certain ingredients like garlic and onions aren’t safe for cats. She seems fine right now, acting playful as usual, but I'm terrified about what might happen. Has anyone else had a similar experience? Should I be rushing her to the vet right this second, or is it one of those cases where I just need to monitor her closely? Any advice would be really appreciated because I feel like such a negligent cat parent right now.

Answer

Thanks for reaching out! Eating something unusual, like a bulgogi dumpling, can definitely be concerning for a pet parent. Fortunately, cats are often curious eaters and many times they manage just fine. However, it’s important to know what signs to watch for just in case.

Bulgogi dumplings contain several ingredients that might not sit well with your cat, such as garlic, onions, or spices which can be toxic in large amounts. Keep an eye on your cat for any signs of distress like vomiting, diarrhea, drooling, or a decreased appetite. Also, watch for lethargy or any unusual behavior that might suggest discomfort or pain.

For now, make sure your cat has access to plenty of fresh water and keep its regular food handy if it feels like eating. Avoid giving any additional human food or treats until you’re certain your feline friend is feeling fine.

If you notice any of the mentioned symptoms or anything else unusual, it’s important to get in touch with a vet promptly. In more serious cases, garlic or onion ingestion can lead to anemia, so monitoring is key.
