I’m pretty new to the puppy world and could really use some advice. We just adopted an absolutely adorable 7-week-old pup, and everything has been so exciting, but I’m a bundle of nerves right now. I’ve noticed he has a little spot where I think his nipple should be, and I’m not sure what to make of it. It doesn't seem to be bothering him, but I can’t shake off this uneasy feeling. It's kind of a little raised and a bit different in texture compared to the rest of the skin. Has anyone encountered something like this before? I’m second-guessing whether I’m overreacting or if this is something we should be concerned about. I’d appreciate any insights or shared experiences. Thanks so much in advance! 🐶❤️
Hello there!
Congratulations on your new puppy! It's wonderful that you're being so observant and proactive about your little one's health. Having a spot where you think your puppy's nipple should be is not uncommon. Puppies, like adult dogs, have nipples that can be quite small and sometimes not very noticeable, depending on their fur and skin coloration.
Potential causes for an odd-looking spot could include a skin irritation, an insect bite, or even a small, harmless mole. However, it's crucial to ensure it's not something more concerning, like an infection or skin condition.
At home, you can gently check for other changes like redness, swelling, or any discharge. Try to keep the area clean and dry. Avoid applying any human products without professional guidance, as they might not be suitable for your puppy's delicate skin.
Watch for signs like persistent redness, increased size, swelling, or if the spot seems painful to your puppy when touched. A loss of appetite or changes in behavior can also indicate something more serious and warrants immediate attention.
For peace of mind and tailored advice, I recommend scheduling a video consult with one of our veterinarians through Dial A Vet. We'd be happy to take a closer look and provide guidance tailored to your puppy's needs.
Looking forward to helping your furry friend!
