I completely understand why you're worried about your puppy's seizures. Seizures in young dogs, especially in breeds like Labradors, can be quite distressing. There are several potential causes, including low blood sugar, epilepsy, or even exposure to toxins. In some cases, structural issues in the brain or metabolic disorders could be contributing factors.
You're doing the right thing by taking him back to the emergency room, especially given the frequency of the episodes. At home, try to keep your puppy safe during a seizure by moving him away from furniture or anything he could harm himself on, and ensure he's lying on his side. Avoid trying to open his mouth or put anything in it, as this could cause injury.
Signs that indicate a serious issue include seizures lasting more than 5 minutes, multiple seizures with very little recovery time in between (cluster seizures), or any difficulty in breathing during or after seizures.
After your emergency room visit, it might be beneficial to follow up with a neurologist or your regular vet to explore potential underlying causes and long-term management. Meanwhile, consider booking a video consult with Dial A Vet so we can further assess your puppy’s situation and guide you on the next steps.
6 months lab puppy had 2 seizures yesterday, took him to er, they kept him for 4 hours, no seizures. Came home and had one about every 2 hours, this morning had 3 within less than 2 hours. Taking him back to er....what is going on?
Something weird just happened, and I’m really freaking out about my 6-month-old lab puppy. Yesterday, he had two seizures out of the blue, and we rushed him to the ER. They kept him for about four hours, and of course, nothing happened while he was there. As soon as we got home, though, he started having them again, about every two hours. This morning has been a nightmare—he's already had three seizures in less than two hours. I'm getting ready to take him back to the ER, but I feel so helpless. Has anyone else experienced something like this with their pup? It's breaking my heart seeing him like this, and I just don’t know what to do. Any advice on what might be happening or tips on how to make him more comfortable would really mean a lot right now.
