Thanks for reaching out with your question. It's understandable to be concerned when your dog gets into something unexpected like sweet almond oil. The good news is that sweet almond oil is generally non-toxic to dogs, but consuming it in large amounts might lead to some tummy troubles.
After ingesting 2-3 ounces, your dog might experience mild gastrointestinal upset, such as diarrhea or vomiting. It's an oily substance, so the digestive system might react by trying to expel it. However, this should be temporary. Ensure your dog stays hydrated, as these symptoms can cause fluid loss. Offer plenty of fresh water and maybe some bland food like boiled chicken and rice to help soothe their stomach.
Keep an eye on your pup for any signs of more severe issues, such as lethargy, continued vomiting or diarrhea, lack of appetite, or any changes in behavior. If you notice any of these signs, it's important to seek veterinary care promptly.
If you're ever unsure or if symptoms persist, it’s always a good idea to get in touch with a vet. I recommend booking a video consult with Dial A Vet to discuss any concerns you may have and to ensure your furry friend's well-being. Stay safe!
30lb dog ate 2-3oz of sweet almond oil
I’m really worried about my dog, Max. He somehow got into the bathroom cabinet while I was at work and managed to chew open a bottle of sweet almond oil. I estimate he lapped up about 2 to 3 ounces of the stuff. Max is a 30-pound, hyperactive terrier mix, and I’m concerned if this amount could be harmful to him. He's acting a bit lethargic and his stomach is making some odd noises, which has me on edge. Has anyone else dealt with something like this? I’m unsure if I should rush him to the vet or wait it out to see if it passes. Any advice or personal experiences would really help calm my nerves right now.
