I completely understand why you're worried about your cat, especially at her age. Vaginal bleeding in a senior cat can be quite concerning and may indicate a few different conditions. One possibility is a urinary tract infection, which is common and can cause blood in the urine that might be mistaken for vaginal bleeding. Alternatively, it could be a sign of more serious issues like pyometra, an infection of the uterus, or even tumors in the reproductive or urinary tract.
At home, it's important to keep your cat comfortable and ensure she's drinking plenty of water to stay hydrated. Observe her litter box habits for any signs of difficulty or distress while urinating, as this could provide further clues. Keep her surroundings calm and stress-free, and regularly check the area around her vulva for any signs of swelling or additional discharge.
Look out for other signs of illness, such as lethargy, loss of appetite, or excessive grooming of the genital area. If she shows any of these symptoms or if the bleeding persists, it's crucial to seek veterinary care promptly.
I'd recommend booking a video consult with one of our vets at Dial A Vet to discuss her symptoms in detail and get personalized advice on the next steps.
15y old female cat vaginal bleeding
Help, I'm really worried about my old girl and could use some advice. My 15-year-old kitty has suddenly started having some sort of vaginal bleeding, and I’m completely freaking out. It started this morning, and I noticed it when she got up from her nap and there were tiny spots on her favorite blanket. She's been her usual self otherwise; eating okay, purring, and pretty cozy, but I can't shake the feeling that something's wrong. Has anyone else dealt with something like this? Is it an emergency? I can't get to a vet until tomorrow, and I’m a bundle of nerves right now. Any thoughts?
