I completely understand why you're worried about your 14-year-old mutt with osteosarcoma. At this stage, focusing on comfort and quality of life is absolutely the right approach. Osteosarcoma, a type of bone cancer, can be painful, so managing their pain is a top priority.
You can help at home by ensuring a comfortable resting place that’s easy to access and providing non-slip mats to make movement less challenging. Warm compresses may soothe sore areas, but avoid placing them directly on the tumor site. Keeping your pup's environment stress-free will also make a big difference.
Pay attention to signs of pain or discomfort like limping, decreased appetite, or changes in behavior. If these symptoms worsen or if you notice new ones like difficulty breathing or severe lethargy, it’s essential to seek veterinary advice promptly.
For managing pain, your vet might recommend anti-inflammatory or pain-relief medications tailored for your dog's condition. Some pet owners find that gentle massage, acupuncture, or dietary supplements help, but you should discuss these options with a vet first.

14 yr old mutt with osteosarcoma; pallative care options?
I’m really at a loss right now and could use some advice. My sweet 14-year-old mutt, Max, who’s been part of our family forever, was just diagnosed with osteosarcoma. My vet says it’s pretty advanced and I’m just heartbroken. Max has always been this strong, happy dog, but lately, he’s been limping a lot more, barely eating, and seems really tired. I know we’re getting into the palliative care territory, but I don’t even know where to start. Do I give him stronger meds for pain or change his food? He still has good days when he wags his tail and begs for treats around dinner time. I just want to make sure I’m doing right by him and not rushing into anything too soon. What have others done in similar situations?
