11 week old kitten peeing a lot

I'm really worried about my 11-week-old kitten, Luna, and I could use some advice. Over the last couple of days, I've noticed she's been peeing a lot more than usual. It's like every time I turn around, she's in her litter box. I haven't changed her diet or anything, so I'm a bit confused. She seems fine otherwise—she's still eating, playing, and being her usual mischievous self, but the frequent trips to the box have me concerned. I can't help but wonder if it could be a sign of something more serious. Have any of you experienced this with your kittens? I’d appreciate any guidance or similar experiences to help me figure out what might be going on with her. Thanks in advance!

Answer

Thanks for reaching out with your concern about your kitten. Frequent urination in an 11-week-old kitten could be due to several reasons. One common cause is a urinary tract infection (UTI), which can make your kitten feel the need to urinate more often. Another possibility might be diabetes or kidney issues, though these are less common in kittens this young.

Make sure your kitten has constant access to fresh water, as dehydration can worsen any underlying issues. It’s also important to monitor her litter box habits; look for signs of discomfort, straining, or any blood in the urine, which can indicate more serious issues.

At home, keep track of how often your kitten is urinating and any changes in her behavior. If she's eating less, losing weight, or showing signs of lethargy, those could be indicators of an underlying problem that needs veterinary attention.

Be mindful that frequent urination, if left unchecked, can lead to more severe health problems. If you notice any of these warning signs or if the frequent urination continues, I recommend booking a video consultation with one of our veterinarians at Dial A Vet. They can help diagnose the issue and recommend the best course of action for your kitten's health.
