Question:

10 y/o F cat urinating on everything, tried everything :(

I'm really at my wit's end and could use some advice. I have a sweet 10-year-old female cat who’s been with me pretty much her whole life. Lately, she’s been peeing outside the litter box—on furniture, clothes, shoes, you name it. It started a few weeks ago and nothing seems to help. I've already tried the vet and checked for any infections, switched up the litter brands, added more boxes, and even tried those calming pheromone diffusers. The litter boxes are always clean, I scoop them several times a day. Nothing's changed in our household recently, so I can't figure out what's causing it. It's seriously stressing me out because I feel like I've tried every possible solution and I'm still failing her. Has anyone had a similar experience? Any advice would be so appreciated. Thanks!

Answer:

Hello there! It sounds like you're going through a tough time with your kitty's recent behavior, and I’m here to help. When a cat starts urinating outside the litter box, it can be quite frustrating, but it's often their way of telling us something isn’t quite right.

There are a few possible reasons for this change. It could be a urinary tract infection (UTI) or bladder stones, which can be quite painful for cats. Other medical issues like kidney disease or diabetes could also cause increased urination. Behavioral factors play a role too—stress, changes in their environment, or even issues with the litter box itself might be contributing.

For at-home care, try placing extra litter boxes around the house and ensure they're cleaned regularly. Sometimes, changing the type of litter or the litter box location can make a big difference. If you’ve recently changed her food, try reverting to the previous diet, as dietary changes can sometimes cause digestive upset.

Keep an eye out for signs of distress, such as blood in the urine, straining, or crying while urinating. These indicate a potential emergency, and it’s important to seek veterinary care promptly.

I recommend scheduling a video consult with our team at Dial A Vet to discuss your cat’s symptoms further and find the best solution together. We're here to support you and your feline friend!

It was so easy, I needed some eye drops for my dog and thinking about going to the vet on a weekend made me nervous about the cost involved. Dial A Vet was a much simpler, cheaper option with faster results. Within 10 minutes of the call, I had the medicine I needed for my dog without an expensive consultation.

What an amazing service, at my wits end as I knew my beautiful dog had an ear infection, could not get into the vet for 4 days. Never knew there was vets online until I googled. Within 15 minutes on a Sunday I was taking to beautiful Samantha who diagnosed and treated our Jasper. Only $49. She trusted that we knew our boy and gave us lots of advice. I will definitely be using dial a vet every time and sharing with all my friends and family. Absolutely fantastic kind caring service. 11/10
