I completely understand why you're worried. Your 1-year-old cat's sudden hissing and twitching after starting a new food can definitely raise some alarms. Changes in diet can sometimes cause various reactions in pets, though hissing and twitching are not typical signs of a food allergy. It's possible that your cat might be experiencing discomfort or pain, or it might be unrelated to the new food altogether.
Sometimes, a cat might accidentally ingest something they shouldn't, which could lead to these symptoms. Neurological issues or irritation from a foreign substance near them could also be possibilities. To start, try removing the new food and see if their behavior returns to normal. Ensure they're in a calm, safe environment away from anything that could stress them out.
Watch for signs like continuous twitching, vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, or refusal to eat or drink, as these could indicate something more serious requiring immediate attention.
Reconnect with us for a video consult on Dial A Vet if the symptoms persist, worsen, or if you're not seeing any improvement after reverting to their old diet. It’s always better to be cautious when it comes to the health of your furry friend.
1 yr old Cat displaying odd hissing and twitching today after 1 day on a new food.
Something weird just happened with my cat, Luna, and I’m kinda freaking out. She's been on this new cat food since yesterday, and today she’s been acting really strange. Usually, she’s the sweetest furball, but this morning she started hissing out of nowhere and her tail is twitching like crazy. This is really not like her at all. Could it be the new food? I’m not sure if I should take her to the vet right away or if I’m overreacting. Has anyone else experienced this with their kitty? Any advice would be super helpful because I just want to make sure she’s okay.
